Benefits of Artificial Grass

A story was once told, that in a suburb in Australia somewhere, where all the residents in this particular street took pride in their front yards, with big trees and beautiful green lawns, one day one of the home owners decided to pull up all his yard and installed artificial grass.  While most people opposed to the change, he knew he was making an environmentally concious decision and was very happy with his new yard.  With summer approaching, many other home owners will too consider installing artificial grass due to its water saving benefits, which on its own make a huge impact to the environment.  Artifical Grass also known as Synthetic Grass or Faux Grass has improved over the years, and now appears to look and feel authentic.

The beauty of artificial grass is on the maintenance side.  It doesn't require the mowing, fertilising, edge trimming, watering that natural grass requires.  You simply use a blower to remove any debris that may have fallen on it from trees.  As summer approaches, you will start to see many homes making the change.

Everyone has a different view on artifical grass. Some love it and some hate it.  Some neighbourhoods have actually banned artificial grass due to so many complaints as people think it looks funny.  The fact that it remains beautiful and green all year round, even in cold winters when some natural grass dies off is ignored.  While generally the only complaint about artificial grass is it's look, there are just so many benefits that follow, particularly the time saving aspect of maintenance.

Other benefits from artificial grass are the decrease in fertilisers, less water usage, especially with drought on our doorstep.  It is known that overseas some suburbs are offered a rebate if they landscape their yard instead of having natural grass, and if they use artificial grass they also get money back which encourages people to make the change.

Feedback from families with children, is that the children love artifical grass as they no longer have mud on their feet and so parents don't need to worry about grass allergies.  Other benefits are the reduced time it takes to maintain artificial grass, leaving you more time to spend time with family and friends.

When looking at your choices for landscaping it very much comes down to your budget, the look you are after, and the benefits that you want.  Some people find artificial grass ugly, while others love it.  As time goes on and further research, the quality, look and feel of artificial grass is just getting better and better.

When your making the decision to change, consider all aspects, long term and short term and I think we all need to remember what is most important here and that is saving the environment.
